This document describes itk::ContourExtractor2DImageFilter, an implementation of the arching squares2D contour-finding method using the Insight Toolkit ITK www.itk.org. This filter takes as input a 2D image (not necessarily binarized) and a contour value, and outputs zero or more itk::PolyLineParametricPath objects which represent the image contours at that value.

Summary:
The author provides a 2-D analog of the well-known `Marching Cubes\' algorithm.
Hypothesis:
Non applicable.
Evidence:
The author provides a validating test case.
Open Science:
This contribution adheres to the common expectations for open science, e.g. source code is transparent, methodological commentary is sufficiently clear, and
example output is easily reproduced. The API is simple and intuitive.
Reproducibility:
I was able to reproduce the results of the author as well as integrate it into my own code with no difficulty.
Use of Open Source Software:
This contribution constitutes an additional filter in the ITK library.
Open Source Contributions:
Source code is provided in an easily-used and intuitive form. The description is adequate to reproduce the author\'s results and to perform a seemless
integration into my own code.
Code Quality:
The code was easily readable and, as far as I could tell, the source code is ITK style. I ran it using mac osx, gcc 4.0.
Applicability to other problems:
Given the general applicability of the filter, this contribution would obviously find use in disparate image analysis applications.
Suggestions for future work:
None.
Requests for additional information from authors:
None.
